We recommend attending the course minimum 6-8 weeks before your licence expiry date to avoid delays in renewing your licence to continue working.

Course Information

The benefit of completing the SIA Top Up for Door Supervisors (Refresher) training course:

– This qualification allows you to renew your SIA Licence to continue working as a Door Supervisor

– This is a mandatory SIA requirement for all current SIA licence holders that will need to renew their SIA Licences as of October 2021.

Please ensure that you book this course well in advance of your SIA Licence expiry date to ensure that you complete the course, gain your certificate and have enough time to apply for your renewal. This will help you avoid disruption to your employment.

The SIA Top Up for Door Supervisors (Refresher) course covers three main learning modules as prescribed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to renew your SIA licence to work within the industry. These are as follows:

Module 1: Principles of Terror Threat Awareness

Module 2: Principles of Using Equipment as a Door Supervisor

Module 3: Application of Physical Intervention Skills

The course modules are taught within a classroom-based environment, some parts of the modules are provided in advance as distant learning material for you to study before attending the training course.

As the original Door Supervisor qualification has now been updated after 10 years, new process, regulations and methods have been created to ensure that Door Supervisors and Security Officers have the most updated knowledge to take to the field. 

You will learn about terror threats and recognising actions and procedures to take. You will learner about different types off PPE for your employment role. How to communicate effectively using relevant equipment. Finally, you will also update your physical intervention skills.

Once you have successfully completed this official SIA approved course, you will be able to renew for your SIA Licence Card to continue to work within the security industry.

The SIA Top Up for Door Supervisor (Refresher) course is assessed by three multiple-choice paper exams and two practical assessments that you will complete during attendance as follows:

Module 1: Principles of Terror Threat Awareness

  • 10-question multiple-choice exam paper
  • Examination duration: 20 minutes
  • 70% pass mark

Module 2: Principles of Using Equipment as a Door Supervisor

  • 5-question multiple-choice exam paper
  • Examination duration: 10 minutes
  • 70% pass mark

Module 3: Application of Physical Intervention

  • 30-question multiple-choice exam paper
  • Examination duration: 45 minutes
  • 80% pass mark

Module 2: Using Equipment as a Door Supervisor has a 5 minute practical assessment and training on how to use communication devices effectively.

Module 3: Physical Intervention module has a theory and practical element to help you understand the uses of physical intervention in conflict situations. It is similar to your previous training qualification acheived but will have the most relevant and up-to-date methods being used within the security industry.

This module is assessed by your Tutor. 

You must hold the Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work qualification or equivalent, if you do not then you will also complete the Emergency First Aid at Work qualification when attending the first day. Please keep in mind that the Emergency First Aid at Work qualification price is not included. Additonal First Aid fee will be payable. The duration will not change.

If you currently hold the Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, it MUST have at least 12 months remaining until expiry on the first day of your SIA Door Supervisor course for it to be acceptable due to SIA regulations. You must bring your certificate with you on the day.

You must be 18 and above to attend the course and apply for an SIA Licence to work in the security industry.

English speaking, listening, reading and writing must be at an acceptable required level.

Do I need experience to do this course?

This course is for current SIA Licence holders that need to renew their SIA Licences from October 2021. This course is also for learners that wish to apply for an SIA Licence after 1st October 2021 that hold a valid in-date SIA Door Supervisor Certificate.

What documents do I need to bring when I attend?

You will need one of the following, Passport ID (Any Nationality), UK Driving Licence (Full or Prov) or a UK Birth Certificate as a Group A document. You will also need 2 proofs of address such as a Bank Statement, Utility Bill, Government/NHS letters and 1 Passport size photo.

 

What if I fail my exams?

If you fail any of your exams, do not worry. We offer FREE unlimited exam re-sits as standard. You can re-sit your exams as many times as you like until you pass!

How long does it take to get results?

Results are provided within 7 working days.

When will I get my Certificate?

The amazing thing is that we provide your Certificate at the same time as your results when you pass! We provide an electronic certificate that is authenticated by the examining body. Avoid delays waiting further weeks for your certificate to arrive. e-Certificates are emailed in PDF format and you can save the file or email the certificate directly to employers.

How much is the SIA Licence badge?

The SIA currently charge a fee of £190.00 for the SIA Licence.

How do I apply for the SIA Licence?

You must apply for the SIA Licence on the government website. It is a straight forward SIA application. Once submitted, the SIA will instruct you to take your ID and proof of addresses to the Post Office and you will also make the payment for the fee when you attend.

Are the courses you provide recognised by the SIA?

Yes. Our SIA courses are regulated by the SIA and the Awarding Body. We provide genuine qualifications that are recognised by the SIA to gain your SIA Licence successfully.

Does the course fee include the SIA licence badge?

No. The course fee that you pay us is only for the qualification that we provide. You will receive the full training and certificate when you pass. The SIA Licence fee is payable to the SIA via the Post Office once you have passed the course and then completed the SIA application.

Do you provide learning material?

Yes. We provide you with learning material for the relevant modules of the course which meeting the Awarding Body requirements. It is important to read and understand the information as it will help improve your chances of passing the course successfully. It will also improve your knowledge and increase your chances of a successful job interview.

Why do I have to do the First Aid course when I book the Top Up for Door Supervisor Course?

As of 1st April 2021, the First Aid qualification is mandatory for anyone who wishes to work as a Security Guard or a Door Supervisor. This is an SIA regulation and a requirement for everyone who wishes to complete the SIA security course. Please add First Aid if you do not have a valid in-date First Aid Certificate that has over 12 months until expiry.

What if I have a valid First Aid certificate?

You will need to bring your First Aid certificate with you when you attend the course. We recommend that you contact us on 0208 166 1593 so we can confirm that the certificate you hold is acceptable as per SIA regulations.

My First Aid certificate expires in a few months, is it accepted?

Your First Aid certificate must have a minimum of 12 months left before expiry on the first day you begin your SIA course. If when you attend the first day of the course, your First Aid certificate has less than 12 months left then the First Aid certificate will not be acceptable as per SIA regulations. Please ensure you check with us before booking your training.

Can I complete my First Aid training after I finish my security course?

Unfortunately not. The SIA stipulate that the Emergency First Aid at work training must be completed BEFORE you begin the SIA Door Supervisor or Security Officer Top-Up training. Please add the First Aid course date for Day 1 of the Top Up Training.
